About Steve... I was born Steven Eric Thomas, on February 25th, 1978, in Indiana to a mother named Sandra Kay (Reichert) Young and to a Father named Claude Lowell Thomas. My dad is originally from Lockwood (near Summersville), West Virginia, where he was born and raised. My mom is from Osceloa, Indiana, where she grew up and went to Penn High School. Both of my parents live in Elkhart County, Indiana. I have a big brother as well, Gregory Alan Thomas. He grew up and is still living in Elkhart, Indiana. He attended Concord High School and graduated in 1992. He has two children, Tristan Alan Thomas and Thomas Alan Nicholas Black. Greg works at Meijer's where he works as a loss prevention manager. He saves the Meijer's chain tons of cash!
25 days after high school and I was on my way to boot camp for the United States Air Force--Lackland AFB, TX (right outside San Antonio). After my 6-weeks of boot camp, I was on my way to Sheppard AFB, TX, where I was to study Munitions Systems (AMMO). 8-weeks later and I was then headed to my first duty station--Elmendorf AFB, Alaska (right inside Anchorage).
When I first got to Elmendorf I was assigned to Storage and Handling. I was at this shop from Dec 1996 - November 1997. After I left storage, I was on my way to Missile Maintenance (PGM). I recieved training on the world's premier weapon systems such as the: AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-7 Sparrow, AIM-120 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium Range Air-To-Air Missile), and the AGM-65 Maverick. Where else could a kid from Indiana have so much fun?? The rest of the time I was stationed in Alaska, this is the shop I worked in--PGM. I am now stationed in Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, and have been here since December 1999. I work in a shop called Munitions Control. This shop is the central point for all munitions movements throughout the base--bomb dump and flightline areas. We deal with pretty much everyone on base (at least it seems like it at times). We track missiles, bombs, components, manning, vehicles, fire symbols (1.1-bombs, 1.2-missiles, 1.3-flare, 1.4-small arms), hazard symbols (apply no water, breathing apparatus, etc.), and much, much, more. This job is a bit stressful, but I can handle it...NOW LEAVE ME ALONE! ha I met Caron in Alaska and we hit things off right from the start. We dated for a year and on our anniversary I asked her to marry me. A couple of months later and we tied the knot--January 23 1999. Caron is originally from Eagle River, Alaska, and she has two brothers, David and Brian, and a sister, Tara (You can read more about Caron on her page). |
